Welcome to the North American Generator Forum

The North American Generator Forum (NAGF) was founded in 2009 as a vehicle for generator owners and/or operators to address issues related to registration, compliance, standards development and other NERC-related topics. In 2013, the North American Generator Forum, Inc. became a non-profit, dues-based corporation.

We provide entities who are generator owners and operators in North America a means to collaborate and communicate with FERC, NERC, the Regional Entities, the Canadian Provinces and other organizations with missions similar to ours, with the ultimate goal of improving the reliability of the bulk power system.

Said: : "It appears that the GOPs in PER-005-2 R6 (at a centrally located dispatch center) don't have to be familiar with Protection Systems or receive related training. (OPA and RTA, whose definitions are being revised, will be performed by the R...

Said: : "I concur Erika. My personal thoughts were that it was administrative in general, but my SMEs pointed out mistakes can be made when resetting lockout relays and other issues. I have to go back many years to my operational days in the field...
Said: : "I believe that NERC classified the risk as Medium because most of the major outages have involved protection system coordination failures or misoperations. I support PER-006 as drafted because NERC listened and acted on generation segment...
Said: : "My SMEs think the Medium VRF is warranted, because of larger power plants that could have impact on the BES. We believe the Standard answers FERC's issues. Does anyone else have any concerns with PER-006-1 as drafted?"
Said: : "So you agree that it seems it is their attempt to place the same importance of training on Plant Operators as they are for RCs, BAs, TOPs, and GOPs that are making real-time operational decisions on BES? I thought I might be a little para...
Said: : "It’s also interesting to read how the VSLs are defined.  You get the sense that they’re adding rigor to PER-006 at least in part because PER-005 is not applicable to Plant Operators.  Thanks."
Said: : "I am thankful they decided to keep Protection System training out of the systematic approach to training Standard PER-005-2 for Plant Operators, however, I have a small concern relating to the Violation Risk Factor of Medium. I do not be...
Said: : "Hi all - For each Standards Development project, NERC also maintains a "plus" list of observers interested in that particular project. The plus lists are different for each project, and different from the general "standards" group Mike ...
Said: : "Mike, Mani Mardhekar from NERC helps the NAGF SRT with NERC coordination and sponsoring meetings so we use their technology. He can likely retrieve a list of all NERC mailing lists with purposes and provide them to you. His address is M...

Said: : "The, “both…and,” clause of the standard could mean: - Testing is required unless a unit is unresponsive to over-frequency events and is also unresponsive to under-frequency events, i.e. over-and-under, with the word “both” being superfluo...
