The NAGF has moved!

Welcome to the North American Generator Forum

The North American Generator Forum (NAGF) was founded in 2009 as a vehicle for generator owners and/or operators to address issues related to registration, compliance, standards development and other NERC-related topics. In 2013, the North American Generator Forum, Inc. became a non-profit, dues-based corporation.

We provide entities who are generator owners and operators in North America a means to collaborate and communicate with FERC, NERC, the Regional Entities, the Canadian Provinces and other organizations with missions similar to ours, with the ultimate goal of improving the reliability of the bulk power system.

Said: : "I concluded that Row 7 of Attachment 1 should be applicable beginning on the effective date of MOD-026-1. An applicable unit that has an average capacity factor of less than 5% for the prior three years meets Requirement 2 with a written ...
Said: : "Thanks for your response. Our fleet is 500+ generators with 65 NERC registrations so as you can see, this presents a challenge due to volume. As far as the Capacity factor exemption, we are interpreting this as related to years 8-9 and 10...
Said: : ""Fleet" as a term not defined by NERC has in Reliability Standards its usual and customary meaning, but usual and customary to whom? It may be obvious to a GO that if they own five plants, each with its own NERC registration, the fleet s...
Said: : "We (AEP Generation) have basically taken the conservative approach and calculated our implementation plan MVA's per registration. We didn't base that on any region feedback, but consideration that it would most likely be the regions who ...
Said: : "I see the issue. We have it pretty clearly delineated, all of our substations at our sites have a fence between our side and the transmission/distribution entity side. Our transformers, relays, control house, etc., are all on our side of ...
Said: : "Chris, Our hydro units (32) reverse power relays are on our NERC asset list. We have multiple settings to allow motoring our generator in "Sync-Condense" Mvar voltage control mode which allows for maximum water conservation. AVR/Excite...
Said: : "Scott, I think our biggest issue is around ownership. The applicability section and requirements talk about protecting things you own, but then the attachment talks about protecting things associated with other things. Nowhere does it say...
Said: : "PRC-19, VAR-002 and the MOD standards address avr exciters. NERC defines Protection System -Protective relays which respond to electrical quantities,Communications systems necessary for correct operationof protective functionsVoltage...
Said: : "This came from our SME on the subject: The answer could be yes to all 3 depending on how you define the AVR/exciter. The reverse power relays should be on the list. Typically the AVR has all the control and protective functions while ...
Said: : "Thanks John. I've received several offline emails that concur with your response."
Said: : "We include exciter protective relays and the reverse power relays, part of multifunction relays. john"
Said: : "1) I agree, 4.2 is inconsistent. In the attempt to ensure that it isn't the Facility that gets categorized as High, Medium, or Low, but rather it's BES Cyber Systems, I feel like this has made Section 4.2 as a whole ambiguous. I'm not a l...
