Welcome to the North American Generator Forum

The North American Generator Forum (NAGF) was founded in 2009 as a vehicle for generator owners and/or operators to address issues related to registration, compliance, standards development and other NERC-related topics. In 2013, the North American Generator Forum, Inc. became a non-profit, dues-based corporation.

We provide entities who are generator owners and operators in North America a means to collaborate and communicate with FERC, NERC, the Regional Entities, the Canadian Provinces and other organizations with missions similar to ours, with the ultimate goal of improving the reliability of the bulk power system.

Said: : "Great - very much needed event."
Said: : "We have received a healthy response from a many. I want to encourage you to respond to this training survey if you have not already done so. So far 22 people have responded. I will share the survey after May 10."
Said: : "Don, you are correct that PFR will continue to be of interest to NERC, as well as FERC. I was involved in the BAL-003 standard development which was the primary reason for the development of the NERC guideline. I am providing these commen...
Said: : "It appears that PFR will continue to be of interest, in which case the NERC guideline of 2/15/15 needs substantial improvement. It calls for sustained response to disturbances, while regarding the inability of fossil plant to immediately...
Said: : "Just when you thought the thread was dead. Meggar is offering a presentation on this topic for those who are interested. It appears to be free. I registered and did not have to pay. See the link below: http://campaign.r20.constantcon...
Said: : "Hi Alex: Yes, we have run into this. If you are still within the six (6) year testing period for PRC-005, doing the test will help. You may still have to answer about the previous test and your lack of detailed information. Here in the...
Said: : "NERC will be posting the findings of the EPR team along with a survey for 45 day comment. The current recommendation is not to revise either VAR-001 or VAR-002. If we as a group feel that revisions should be made to the existing standar...
Said: : "Portable Battery Ohmic Testers come in three basic types, 1) resistance and 2) impedance (both readings in ohms) and 3) conductance (readings in mhos). As Bradley noted, the standard only requires the readings be taken, not how or what t...
Said: : "Brandon, I wish I took better notes. I know our commissioning documents shows the values in ohms. The important thing is to get the good connection. Poor connections will cause poor readings. The standard requires that you do the readings...
Said: : "Brad do you recall any discussion from the TVA presentation regarding reporting resolution for the different readings required? For example, should the "battery terminal connection resistance" and "battery intercell or unit-to-unit conne...
Said: : "Here is the revised link, so everyone will have access. -Mike NAGF responses and actions.docx"
Said: : "Carl: I see PRC-025 as requiring a generator to remain on-line during a fault condition as specified within the criteria of the standard for the protection element you are using. For phase-distance elements you pick 1a, 1b, or 1c as the ...
