The NAGF has moved!

Welcome to the North American Generator Forum

The North American Generator Forum (NAGF) was founded in 2009 as a vehicle for generator owners and/or operators to address issues related to registration, compliance, standards development and other NERC-related topics. In 2013, the North American Generator Forum, Inc. became a non-profit, dues-based corporation.

We provide entities who are generator owners and operators in North America a means to collaborate and communicate with FERC, NERC, the Regional Entities, the Canadian Provinces and other organizations with missions similar to ours, with the ultimate goal of improving the reliability of the bulk power system.

Said: : "I respectfully disagree. SPRs are not part of Protection Systems, and are in-scope for PRC-005 due to this standard covering Protection Systems, Automatic Reclosing, and Sudden Pressure Relaying (three different categories of devices). ...
Said: : "Don:   We treat those in the scope of PRC-005 to be in the scope PRC-004.   Best Regards,   Bill Shultz Southern Company"
Said: : "Since PRC-005-6 has been enforced we considered the functionality of the Sudden Pressure Rise relays as responsive to the requirements of PRC-004. We are currently considering their removal from current and future designs."
Said: : "NRG is also interested in any parrticipant's experience regarding this. We have had internal controls in place for many years but am interested in understanding what the entities are looking for and benefits that the participants see with...
Said: : "Don: After the initial coordination, I read R1 to say that the coordination should be reviewed/rechecked no less frequent than every 5 calendar years - meaning that the date of the recheck should be no later than 5 calendar years after ...
Said: : "My experience has been to execute a switching order to close the generator breaker disconnect(s) very early in the start-up procedure, likely while the machine is still on turning gear. I would want to put my switchman in the yard in the ...
Said: : "We close the disconnect switch with no angle qualifications, and then use synchronizing relays to supervise and close the generator breaker when the phase angle, voltage magnitude, and slip frequency are in a permissible range. Bill ...
Said: : "At the Alstom GT24 plant I worked at the Disconnect Switch of the GCB was closed at the begining of the synchronization process, even prior to Synchrotact 4 being activated."
Said: : "Much appreciate everyone's input on this topic and approach. I am curious if there has been any audits conducted in any of the regions and how the Regional Entities are approaching this. We have only had experience with the conventional p...
Said: : "I believe PRC-019 requirements does apply to WTGs. For example, one can show on a TCC that the stator and converter output limits of a WTG are well-coordinated to operate before PD that would trip the generator offline. In this case, Requ...
Said: : "So this is a really interesting one. I have bolded some text below from section 4.2.3.1 below. Disclaimer that I am fairly new to wind generation, what I have seen so far is that voltage can be aggregated and controlled by a single cont...
Said: : "Have not been audited on this one. Applicability section 4.2.3.1 specifically identifies dispersed power resources as included in the scope. Best Regards."
Said: : "I would like to find out from other renewable source generators if they have been audited yet to PRC-019 requirements. What have the auditors been looking for with regard to demonstrating coordination of the voltage control elements ( LT...
