Welcome to the North American Generator Forum

The North American Generator Forum (NAGF) was founded in 2009 as a vehicle for generator owners and/or operators to address issues related to registration, compliance, standards development and other NERC-related topics. In 2013, the North American Generator Forum, Inc. became a non-profit, dues-based corporation.

We provide entities who are generator owners and operators in North America a means to collaborate and communicate with FERC, NERC, the Regional Entities, the Canadian Provinces and other organizations with missions similar to ours, with the ultimate goal of improving the reliability of the bulk power system.

Said: : "We fall in line with others that have responded. One thing to keep in mind as you develop your Facility Ratings and methodology is the distinction between them and the MOD-032 data for modeling. Your item 2 looks to be more closely rela...
Said: : "1. We use MVA rating. Be aware that during our audit in 2017 we were asked to convert everything to current ratings, which caused a lot of additional work. 2. Our facility rating is based on our most limiting element through the power del...
Said: : "1. We use MVA for our ratings. 2. Our rating is based on our most limiting (smallest MVA) piece of equipment between (and including) the generator and the transmission interface. 3. No 4. In my opinion, operating above your most limiting ...
Said: : "1. We use MVA as the base for ratings. Amp and MW ratings are converted to equivalent MVA at nominal voltage and rated power factor, respectively. 2. Our Facility Rating Methodology bases component and facility ratings on published manufa...
Said: : "We use MVA for our FAC-008 ratings, because there is then a single basis for determining the most-limiting elements, whether it be on the low side or high side of the GSU. Components rated by the OEM in amps are converted to MVA using th...

Said: : "Todd I understand your reasoning here however I do not think it would be a normal operational function to use the Reverse Power relay as a the "control" for taking the unit off line. I do not believe NERC would classify this as "it's inte...
Said: : "We had this very same issue and called it a mis-operation, but not of a BES Protection System as the reverse power used during a normal shutdown is a process control. We did report it and WECC came back and confirmed that it is not a re...
Said: : "Don, I would not consider this as a misoperation. Pg 24 of the PRC-004 standard provides the following guidance: The standard is not applicable to operation of the protective relay because its operation is intended as a control function a...
